Puzzle games built for two-minute breaks
Not every puzzle game wants your whole evening. Some are designed around tiny sessions — a couple of levels here, a couple there — and those are perfect companions for the small gaps in a day.
The trick is short, self-contained levels and instant loading. Tessera Lab does this beautifully: each stage is over in a minute or two, and there's no penalty for setting it down mid-thought. You never lose momentum because there's no momentum to lose.
I've found these games work better than doomscrolling for the same slice of time. You end a level feeling like you accomplished something small instead of feeling vaguely worse. It's a low bar, but plenty of apps clear it from the wrong side.
Look for puzzlers with no timers and no lives systems. Those two features are almost always there to push you toward a store page, and they ruin the relaxed pace that makes short-session puzzles good in the first place.
